What Breeze hates most…..

Everyone in the wood knows the green faced Ogre called Breeze loves trees, cupcakes and food in general. But Breeze was surprised one afternoon when Lily refused to eat her broccoli and instead of grumbling about being told to eat it. She said “Everyone I know hates something but what do you hate Mr. Breeze?”

He crunched on his own raw broccoli and considered his answer carefully.

Lily pushed her vegetables around on her plate while she waited for his answer.

“I hate, Rain.”

“Why?” She smiled up at him and when he looked away she slid some broccoli on his plate.

“Because it makes sitting on branches of trees difficult, I keep sliding off.” He rammed a piece of broccoli into his large mouth.

Her answering giggles didn’t please him. Lily noticed and said, “Sorry but you like sliding on branches.”

“Yes but not when I am trying to sleep and there is this picture I got from that sneaky dog – Bob.”

Lily sat up, delighted that Bob had been mentioned as this meant the whole problem of eating or not eating broccoli would now be forgotten. “Bob? What has he done?”

“He watches me falling off branches in the rain and I bet he laughs a lot at it.” Breeze scratched his chin and looked very bothered at this thought.”

“Can I see the photo?” She asked

While Breeze ambled to the back of his cave to collect the picture Lily pushed the remaining broccoli onto his plate just in time as Breeze returned.

“See, what he does?”

“He is a clever Dog, hiding from the rain,” she mumbled. She noticed Breeze’s sad expression and suggested, “But he doesn’t make Lily the nicest Ice cream sundaes in the whole wide world.”

Breeze grinned. “You are correct, lets go and make some extra large ones.”

Lily jumped down from her chair only too happy that the horrible broccoli was now forgotten.

A long poem or a short story?

ipp

Izzy the fairy, asked Ciara her boss,  “Could I have a different job please?

This year I won’t be seen turning the trees green.”

Izzy was spinning sending fairy dust high in the air.

Hedgehogs were walking round and round

their spikes were curly as birds song sank to the ground

Izzy said. ‘I could fill the rain clouds up real slow or clean Cupid’s bow!”

Ciara tilted her head and said,  “I’ll need to sit for a bit, and find a job to fit.”

Izzy sat on a toadstool and flicked morning dew with her feet.

“Hoi stop that!” a rabbit shouted. “I don’t like getting wet. ”

“Well I don’t like funny bunnies,” she said.

A field mouse scurried by muttering, “Spring is late.”

Izzy asked, “Is there an exact date?”

She hid inside a postbox and sat on a  letter

Hoping she would feel better.

First she wriggled her nose

Then later twiddled her toes.

The wind carried her name past the silent trees,

Izzy flew with the sound on the strong breeze,

“Izzy,  you could be a Web cleaner!” Ciara said as Izzy groaned.

Ugh it’s a terrible job, I’ll get dirty’, Izzy moaned.

Ciara explained, “You see, although I thought and thought

all I came up with was a big fat naught.’

Ciara had an idea, “Rose the tooth fairy needs help for she is busy

And I wonder if it would suit you Izzy?!”

Izzy laughed. “I’m to be a tooth fairy!”

Clapping her hands she said, “Oh goody, can I start early?”

Izzy told everyone of her new important job.

The busy worm family looked interested when Izzy told them of her new line of work,

Luckily she didn’t hear one of the young ones ask, “What’s a tooth then? It sounds like it should be in a book!”

At dusk Izzy was waiting to go,

Rose warned, ‘tonight will not be long and slow’

For now I have someone to help speed up the night,

Everything will be alright.

.

They flew through the keyhole at the first door,

And  waited till they heard a light snore,

Then Rose plucked the tooth from beneath the child’s head

While Izzy carefully put the coin there instead

On the way out, Izzy saw a shining circle that was saying tick tock

Rose laughingly explained it was a clock

Father Time will not like to hear that he is no longer needed Izzy said,

Wondering how much longer it would be before she was back in bed

The childrens rooms were full of treasures Izzy wished she could do more than look,

Dolls, teddies, cars and games mixed with lots and lots of colouring books,

There was a large box with a shiny dark space,

So dark Izzy could see her face,

‘What does it do?” Izzy dared to ask,

Rose couldn’t stop with her task

“I don’t know! Oh Izzy we are missing a tooth, I don’t know if its big or small!

Only that it’s not there at all!’

“Maybe it didn’t fall out on time!” Izzy suggested with a smile.

Rose looked grumpy,  “Izzy we’ll have to come back in a while.”

The next night Izzy returned and stopped at the foot of Sara’s bed.

There was a lot of sniffling and then a gentle cough. Sara sat up straight and said,

“Who are you?”

Izzy a truthful fairy said. “Izzy!”

Sara giggled, “Whats an Izzy?  Sounds like Fizzy! ”

Izzy was at a loss,

without her boss.

Her problem of how to help Sara sleep,

made Izzy  think long and deep,

Her eyes were big and round as she watched and listened without a sound.

As Sara drew funny looking houses, dancing spoons, smiling suns and moons.

When Sara fell asleep Izzy took a peep.

There beneath the pillow was a tiny tooth they missed,

Izzy took the tooth and put  the coin in its place, ‘that’s another one off Rose’s list,

The next night Izzy visited Sara to play

To her surprise she heard Sara say,

‘George our horse looks like he is made of wobbling jellies,

I’ve given him a big funny grin and he is wearing wellies.

Sara finished him, giving him a spikey mane and a fuzzy tail.

Izzy smiled “He looks like fun, why not give him a quick run!”

Taking a tiny bit of Izzy dust she threw it over him,

He left with a wink saying ‘Call me Jim’

Some time later they heard a familiar call. “Iiiiizzzzzzzzyyyyy”

“Ooopps got to go and look busy’

Ciara was looking slightly mad,

“Jim says you made him. Izzy what ever have you been up to?”

“I told you!” Jim said. Ciara waved a finger at him and said ‘Shoo!’

With a toss of his mane and a flick of his tail he left saying boo hoo.

Ciara frowned.  ‘Izzy I feel you need, something with action and speed

Izzy crossed her fingers hoping for something nice,

Perhaps I’ll be looking after the three blind mice,

Ciara said, “ The sky is looking dark and dreary,

I need you to make it look far more cheery.”

Izzy was grinning at these words clapping her hands with glee,

Ciara said, ‘But every day I will stop by to check you have kept your promise to me.’

So If you peep up at the sky and see so many flying sheep or wobbly horses you feel dizzy

Remember to say thanks to the tiny fairy called Izzy!

The kite with a sting in its tail

It was hot. There was not the sound of a single bee buzzing. The wood appeared to be empty of animals, and magical beings.

Breeze was on his way to the river. He wanted to paddle his feet. A loud rustle among the leaves above startled him. He spotted a long tail and wondered if it was a giant mouse. It darted away from him. Breeze followed. He ran from tree to tree, staring upwards. Suddenly he tripped. He hit the ground with a loud thump.

Breeze discovered he had fallen over Hamish.

“Have you no manners?” yelled Hamish. “What are you doing squishing Elves?”

Pulling himself to his feet, Breeze replied, “Sorry there is a giant mouse in the trees.”

“Don’t be silly. They live on the ground, not in trees.” Hamish lay back on his bed of moss. “Go away, it’s nap time.”

Breeze decided to leave because a grumpy elf is better left alone. He walked on looking for the mouse and Tulip stopped him to ask why he was looking upwards. He told her about the mouse.

“Lets look for it together.” She said and then they heard it.

When they looked high amongst the trees they spotted a tail with ribbons on it, in a tree.   “If it is not a mouse, what is it?”

Tulip said, “It’s a kite.” she said and flew high above him to release it.

The kite landed at his feet. “What does it do?”

kite

“I’ll show you.” Tulip took the kite and flew a short distance away. The wind caught hold  and the kite flew after her, swooping and diving. With it’s long tail dancing in the wind, it attracted a lot of attention.

Mrs. Groundsel and her grandchildren came to watch the fun.

As the kite tumbled about in the air something strange happened.

Each time it danced in a certain direction so did everyone on the ground.

If the kite dived to earth, everyone watching fell to the ground.

When the kite flew high into the sky, then everyone jumped off the ground and they rose high into the air.

Lily, a tiny ogre, was screaming, “make it stop, I don’t like it.”

The kite began to dance as it moved.

“This is not funny.” Mrs Groundsel puffed as she jigged about.

“I think I know who did this.” Breeze said and marched into the wood.

Tulip couldn’t pull the kite down. It continued to dance in the sky. Everyone watching danced on the grass.

“I’m too old for this.” Mrs. Groundsel said.

Breeze arrived back with a squealing young witch called Lovisma, tucked under his right arm.

“Let me down you oaf.”

He plonked her on the ground, saying, “Lovisma, I’m not an oaf. I’m an ogre.”

Lovisma saw the dancing crowd before her. She cackled with delight. “Oh you do look funny. My friends would love to see this.”

Breeze said,  “make it stop or I will lock you in with Hamish’s pet skunk, Smelly.”

“No, No, No.  You can’t. He stinks.”

“Why shouldn’t we? You have been nasty.” Breeze said.

“You are nice.” She looked at her feet. “You don’t do stuff like that.”

Breeze said, “Lovisma, make it stop.”

She clicked her fingers and the kite raced landed on the ground. Everyone sat for a rest.

“You are one mean witch,” Tulip said.

“But it was funny, wasn’t it?” Lovisma whispered.  “It wasn’t that nasty. Maybe I should try it in another part of the wood and tell my friends to come watch.”

Breeze said, “No you won’t.”

Lovisma trudged away saying, “Breeze is an oaf, a big spoilsport oaf.”

Everyone shouted after her, “No he is an Ogre!”

The mystery of Gypsy Pixie

One morning Daisy-lyah and Lilian brought some drawings to Breeze.

daisy   flower and butterfly

He was a little surprised. “They are beautiful.”

“We think so too.” Daisy-lyah said.

Lily smiled at him.

“Who did them?” He looked from one of them to the other.

“Gypsy Pixie!” They said.

“There is no such person.” His words brought a scowl to their faces.

Lily looked at Daisy-lyah,  “I told you he wouldn’t believe us.”

“Well we will just have to prove it to you so.” And they stomped off into the wood.

Breeze met Elegant some time later. “Daisy-lyah and Lily have left my drawing at your cave.  All I will say is she is a beautiful woman.”

“WHo?” Breeze said but Elegant just smiled and left him alone.

When Breeze arrived home this is the drawing that sat on his table.

gipsy pixie

“Gyspy Pixie,” he whispered. He read the note the girls left for him it said,

“She makes and repairs cobwebs for elderly spiders. Isn’t that a great story Mr. Breeze?”

That night Breeze dreamt of a flying pixie who was helping all of the spiders in the wood. In the morning he woke to find his cave door was covered in cobwebs.

The Mix Up.

The mix up.

Lily and Laura both live in Mudpile Wood.

Lily is a tiny Ogre which means she is a lot bigger than fairies or elves of her age. Laura is a petite fairy with huge eyes and long brown hair. Both girls love going to parties and love wearing party dresses.

When Breeze and Tulip decided that both the Ogres and the Fairies should host a huge party, there was great excitement.

Every one wanted to look their best.

Parties don’t happen often in Mudpile Wood however, when they do they are amazing.

The evening of the party. Lily opened the parcel that said L’s Dress. She slipped her  arms through it and stopped. She couldn’t go any further. It was tiny. Lily opened her mouth and wailed. The cave rumbled and shook.

Her mum sat and looked at the dress which was stuck half way on and half way off. “You’d best take it off,” she whispered.

“I can’t” Lily moaned “its too tight. It is stuck.”

Her mum helped her out of the dress.

Deep in the northern end of the wood. Laura laid out her wand, her head dress, her fairy slippers and with trembling hands opened the package that said, L’s dress. It was pretty. It was pink. But it was huge. Laura sat on the floor and wept. Tulip found her there and tried to comfort her. “There must be a mistake” Tulip said. “We will fix it.”

“It is too-ooo late. There is no time.”

“Course there is, you fix your hair. I will be back in no time.” Tulip gathered the dress and flew  to the elves house.

Norah the seamstress was a very old elf. She didn’t look happy when Tulip explained the problem. Then Lily’s mum arrived. It didn’t take long for them to realize there had been a mistake.

“I will scold Matt for this.He promised to deliver them to the correct address. Silly Ogre.” Norah said.

They quickly swapped dresses.

An hour later everyone was at the happy and smiling, except for Lily and Laura because Matt met them and said, “You look like crazy twins. You are both wearing the same dress but in different sizes.”

They answered him by chasing him all around the wood. Then when he was hiding they ate all the fairy cakes that he had left on his plate.

Butterfly Hunt

Breeze sat up and looked about him.  He couldn’t see anything but he could hear a lot of soft whispering in the air.  Suddenly he heard a loud shout, “I see him. Over here.”

He smiled because it was Daisy-lyah’s voice. He thought they were looking for him. Breeze slid down the tree and got a nasty shock when Lilly ran past shouting, “Get out of the way Mr. Breeze. We want to catch him.”

“Catch who?” Breeze asked but the two girls had run deep into the wood. He followed.

It didn’t take him long to discover that they were chasing butterflies. Spot , a large colourful butterfly landed on Breeze’s nose.

“Help please. We don’t want to be caught and put in a cage.” Spot whispered.

Breeze frowned. “Why would they do that?”

“Homework, I heard them say. They are supposed to bring an animal to school for show and tell. I don’t want to be it.” The butterfly sat on Breeze’s shoulder. Spike popped out of Breeze’s pocket and looked at Spot then slipped back into the shirt pocket for another nap.

As Breeze walked about the forest an amazing thing happened, butterflies flew towards him and landed on him. Before long he was covered in colorful, beautiful, butterflies. He decided to walk to the witches house as he knew Elegant witch loved butterflies and she would help to hide them.

butterfly_191953

With the butterflies safely fluttering around Elegant who was sitting in the garden, Breeze went in search of Daisy-lyah and Lilly. He found them sitting on a fallen tree. They both looked grumpy.

“Hi, what is wrong?” He asked.

“We have nothing for show and tell. We were trying to catch butterflies but the stupid things kept flying away from us. We wouldn’t hurt them just put them in a cage for show and tell.”

“Ahh.” Breeze sat beside Lilly.

“What?” She asked.

“Butterflies are like fairies they don’t like to be trapped. Their wings would stop working. If you trapped them you would have damaged them.”

“We didn’t know. But what do we do now. We had a whole project written about butterflies.” Lilly kicked at a passing rabbit who dodged her foot.

“Lilly, be nice.” Breeze said.

She scowled.

“It is a big problem.”Daisy-lyah said.

Breeze suggested they  make butterflies. Lilly frowned, “The only butterflies I have made are butterfly cakes.”

Daisy-lyah laughed. “We will draw butterflies.”

They asked Breeze to help. He did. They drew many butterflies, then colored them in, cut them out and then fixed them with spiders cobweb string to thin sticks. When they held them, the paper butterflies swished and jiggled.

Lilly laughed. “They look nicer then the real butterflies.”

Breeze agreed and said, “Don’t tell Spot, Dot and Flitty that or they will be sad.”

The next day at school the two girls discovered their butterflies were the best animals at the show and tell. Matt had borrowed Smelly, the skunk, and he made the classroom smell so badly he was sent home.  Marigold, the elf, borrowed a hedgehog and when some of the children petted her, they cut their hands, so they were sent to the nurse.

The teacher told Lilly and Daisy-lyah they would have no homework for three nights because they had made such a safe choice. And best of all the butterflies were happy because the girls forgot all about them.

Bob’s Troops arrive.

When Breeze woke the next morning he was a little surprised to discover Eunice the carrier pigeon sitting on the end of his bed. She had a note tied to her leg.

He opened it and frowned. “A dog walked on paper.” Breeze muttered staring at the paw prints.pink paw prints

“Does this mean yes or no?” Breeze wished Tulip were here then she could read it for him.

He decided to have breakfast first.

He was enjoying his berry breakfast with muesili when he heard a lot of barking outside his door. He went to look. The wood was full of dogs, racing about with their noses on the ground and their tails in the air. He smiled and said, “They came.” He thought it was safer to stay out of the way.

As he watched from high in the mountain he discovered it wasn’t many dogs. It was one dog.  A black and white collie with a curly tail. “Ellie came.” Breeze said to Spike who sat in the sunshine beside him.

Ellie stopped running and stood on a fallen tree peering about her. Suddenly with a bark and a wag of her tail she raced away.

Breeze felt sad. “Ellie couldn’t find her.” He said and wondered what to do next.

He decided to have second breakfast and perhaps an idea might land during it.

He was on his third bowl of cereal when he heard a familiar shout and a lot of barking.

“Tulip” He shouted and raced outside.

Tulip didn’t look happy.

“Why did that crazy collie drag me here? Are you sick?” Tulip asked.

Breeze looked at her. He decided she looked very angry. He nodded his head. “I was worried, we couldn’t find you, no one knew what happened.”

“Izzy was sick. I went to help her.” She stared at him.” Now I am back and I suppose you and that pair are waiting on Fairy cakes to be baked.”

Breeze began to feel happier. “Yes please.”

Tulip flew away saying, “I think I should bake Ellie an extra big batch and perhaps then I will allow you one or two.”

Breeze was feeling a little grumpy as he walked down the stony path. He stopped when he saw the two dogs sitting looking at  him.

1st pic meeting

“What?” he said. “What do you want?”

“We would like to share our cakes.” Bob said. They got up and raced away.

“But this time you have to come and find us!” Ellie shouted back to him.

Breeze decided it would be nicer to sit in a tree. He knew Tulip was his friend and though he might have to wait a day or two for the cakes. Fairy cakes always, always found their way to him.
