A Rabbit named Flippity

Breeze was asleep until the wood was filled with a bouncing sound. “Booinnnggggg” On and on it went, echoing off the trees, sky and ground until the tree shook and Breeze was shaken from his branch.

Now this is not good, he muttered and went to investigate.

It didn’t take long for him to find the cause of the noise.

It was really two causes, Lovisma and her favorite furry friend: Flippity Rabbit.

He stood on the ground and watched them play. Other animals had gathered round and they were not smiling.

For the two had created a trampoline made from spiders webs and were bouncing on it so much they had shaken the clothes from washing lines, petals from wildflowers, babies from their beds and more importantly children were finding it hard to eat their dinners as the dishes kept bouncing about the wood.

Breeze wanted to tear the net down and stop them from doing more damage except for one slight thing. He wanted to try to bounce and tumble on it.

Trouble was the net didn’t look strong enough to take his weight.

He opened his mouth and roared; “Stop!”

They didn’t because they couldn’t so Breeze did the next best thing: “Elegant. Help.”

She arrived in a blink of an eye. Took one look at her younger sister and said, “I knew Lovisma would be in trouble again, she can’t stay away from mischief for long. ” She raised her wand and looked a little surprised when Breeze pleaded with her not to make it vanish.

“Why not?” She asked.

“Well I kind of like the idea of bouncing but it doesn’t look safe enough for me. And it is in the way of everybody here in the wood. Could you move it some where safer? Please?” He scuffled the grass at his feet as he waited for her answer.

“Very well, come on. We should do this sooner rather than later, I have dinner to make.”

Breeze wanted to ask, why she never simply zapped dinner instead of cooking it but he was a little afraid of witches. Even good witches have tempers. So he followed her to the edge of the wood where the river raced to the waterfall. They walked for a long distance before she stopped and turned to  him. “This will do nicely. The pool is close to the wood, the water doesn’t race along here and if the web breaks the water will break your fall. ”

She flicked her wand. The air sizzled and sparked for a moment. Then with a loud pop it appeared. A huge net high in the air, dangling above the water with Lovisma and Flippity still bouncing on it.

Breeze didn’t wait to be asked he climbed the nearest tree and took a dive onto the net.

However, he forgot about the others. With a squeal of delight Lovisma and Flippity shot high in the air and then with a loud splash they bounced straight off the net and into the water.

Much to everyone’s surprise the tiny witch loved it.

“Do it again Breeze do it again. ” Poor Breeze spent the rest of the evening bouncing on the net and sending those who wished to try it, shooting like rockets into the water.

“next time I get a good idea, I really should keep it to myself.” He muttered when he made his way home to bed very late that night.

Elegant to the rescue.

The yearly event  for witches is the “Broomstick Dive and Duck Ball”. It is a night of feasting, music, competitions and games.

Lovisma loves the competition called, “Whackiest disguise for a broomstick.” Last year she disguised her broom stick as a sausage roll. A giant warlock tried to eat it and broke a tooth. Lovisma didn’t hang around to collect her prize.

Elegant loves the “Design a witches hat” competition. Last year her hat looked like a giant board game complete with rolling dice and moving figures.

ElegantThis year the two witches began their preparations early. On the night of the ball, they took great care with their appearance. Elegant ‘s gown  was midnight blue sprinkled with tiny glittering stars, her shoes and hat matched.

Lovisma spent ages planning her outfit. When she appeared beside Elegant, she looked like a giant swirling lollypop.  They called their broomsticks and got ready to leave for Warlock Twittchets house. lovisma 3

Suddenly a loud scream was heard followed by a dog howling in pain. “What is that?” Elegant asked.

“I don’t know. Lets go.” Lovisma sped off into thenight sky.

Elegant looked towards the wood. The howling was dreadful. “Oh, dear.” She mumbled and flew after Lovisma. When she caught up with her sister she said, “I need to help it.”

“But you will miss the fun. Remember last years popping cheesecake. It was fantastic.” Lovisma said.

“I will catch up later.” Elegant said and went into the wood.

She found Tulip and Hamish trying to get close to a huge dog.  He was standing on three legs, the third one was bent and blood poured from it.

“My magic isn’t strong enough. He is in great pain.” Tulip whispered to Elegant.

“We will work together and fix this.” Elegant said.

Even with magic it took them a long time.  When his paw was mended and bandaged. Hamish  said, “We have to get him home.”

Tulip agreed, “yes he can’t stay here he will frighten everyone but where is his home?”

Elegant thought about the problem and declared, “there is only one way to do this.  We need a potion from the bubbling cauldron. Hamish, we will be back in a jiffy.”

The bubbling cauldron was asleep. It didn’t like being wakened and asked to work. Eventually Elegant persuaded it to allow her to make one potion.

When they returned they added the potion to water. When the husky drank it he told them his story.

Elegant was happy to return the animal to his home but she felt a little sad she had missed the fun at the ball. The next day when everyone in Mudpile Wood  heard of Elegants kind act, they decided to hold a party in her honor to thank her.

Mudpile Wood: Job Swap

Breeze loves to see Izzy, a tiny smiling fairy, visit Mudpile Wood. Her visit means Winter is over because Izzy’s job is to wake up the trees.

When Breeze met her on a cold frosty morning, Izzy was not smiling. Her red curly hair was bouncing around her face. He guessed she was angry.

“What’s up?” he asked.

“I need another job. I’m tired of doing this stuff.” Izzy glared at him.

Breeze wondered why he was always finding fairies with problems.

He decided it was because he was clever and could help them.

“If you wake up the trees in Mudpile wood then I will take you to lunch at Tulips house. We will help you find a new job.” Breeze crossed his fingers because he hoped Tulip wouldn’t be mad.

Two mad fairies would be tough to deal with.

Izzy flew close to his face. She flew around his head and came back to stare at him. Breeze smiled. He didn’t blink, not once.

She nodded. “Okay just for you I will wake them up in a hurry.”

Breeze climbed high into his favourite tree and sat watching Izzy work.

“She is very good at this,” he told a passing dragon fly.

Izzy flew to each tree in turn, said her magic words, gave the tree a hug and flew on to the next one.

Today she was moving very fast. The rabbits on the ground got dizzy as they followed Izzy.

Breeze saw the rabbits fall over and grinned. Tulip came to join him. “What are you laughing at?”

He stopped smiling and said, “Izzy is making everyone dizzy, watch.”

Tulip did. “It is not funny. Hamish has just stepped on a hedgehog. Now Hamish has a sore foot. ”

When Izzy finished she came to sit with Breeze. “I’m tired and it is your fault.”

Breeze said, “Tulip says that to me, very often. It must be a fairy thing, You are weak and small, while I am strong and tall.”

“No it is because we work and you don’t.” Tulip told him.

Turning to Izzy she said, “Would you care for some rosehip tea and a cookie?” When Izzy agreed Tulip said, “this way.”

They were sitting at Tulips house minutes later sipping tea and nibbling on cookies.

Izzy explained how tired she was of her job. “I’ve been doing it forever.” She sounded sad.

Breeze said, “why don’t you swap with Ellen, the Tooth fairy? She is tired of her job.”

Tulip looked surprised. “That is a good idea. Let’s go visit Ellen.”

Breeze took the last cookie and told them he would mind the house while they went to visit Ellen.  He was feeling sleep but chuckled as he heard Izzy sing: “I’m to be a tooth fairy. When do I start, what do I do?”
